Welcome to St. John Vianney's Kindergarten page!
Aloha SJV Kindergarten ‘Ohana,

My name is Mahina O’Connor, and I will be your child’s teacher for the 2022-2023 school year. Working as my teacher’s aides are Miss Karli-Jo and Miss Shayla. We are excited to get this year started and to facilitate their learning. We are looking forward to meeting and getting to know each of you.

My expectations of the children will be set within the first couple weeks and instilled throughout the entire year. These expectations will be a combination of academic standards as well as proper behavior. These years of development are crucial in teaching our young children proper behavior and setting the foundation of their knowledge. My expectations are set to challenge them, but will not be a task I feel they can’t achieve.  My expectation of you will be to continue to enforce and practice these skills and behaviors at home so that they are more likely  to perform them in the classroom. Our goal is to prepare them to be successful in the first grade, which will be very attainable if we all work cooperatively together.

I have great things planned for this year and in order to make it successful and engaging I will honor birthdays and plan fun in-class activities. I will allow parents to bring in small, individually wrapped, store bought, treats to share with the class on their child’s birthday. We ask that you please remember that we are a nut free school. Also, if your child has an allergy to something, please inform the office right away, if you haven’t already. If you plan to bring in treats on your child’s birthday, please let me know ahead of time so that I can plan accordingly.

As the world works to adjust to the ever changing COVID19 we continue to take every step to assure your child’s safety and well-being. With that being said, I kindly ask that parents do not enter the classroom. The classroom will open at 7:15AM and students can go directly into the classrooms upon arrival. As a whole, we continue to take careful measures to protect our students, faculty, and staff. Wearing a mask is optional for students while on campus. Please keep in mind that Mrs. DeMello can reinstate mask wearing on campus, at any time, should the COVID19 numbers escalate.

I am looking forward to this year and can’t wait to work with you and your child. Pictures, information, monthly newsletters, etc., will be posted on our classroom website at sjvkindergarten.weebly.com. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. You can reach me by email at moconnor@sjvkailua.org.

Sincerely,
Mrs. O’Connor

Mission Statement:

Inspiring hearts, minds and lives.

PHILOSOPHY
St. John Vianney Parish School gives students a firm foundation of faith within the framework of our Catholic tradition.  We believe that the faith community of our school exists as a vital part of the parish and that it is an extension of the Church in its mission to teach the gospel of Jesus Christ.  Our school community gives witness to Catholic values in everyday life. We assist parents, the primary educators, in guiding their children to become responsible members of our community, our Church and our world.

In the spirit of Jesus Christ, our teachers create a loving atmosphere that facilitates learning.  The focus of our Catholic education is the total development of the child: spiritual, moral, academic, physical and cultural.  Our goal is that our students will establish a personal relationship with the living Jesus, discover their gifts, share their talents, appreciate who they are and develop who they are called to be.

Hawaiian Value:

Lokahi: Maintain peace/unity

Scripture:

And the Child grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him.

Luke 2:40
